And there are so many people to thank, We gave them their own page.
With razor sharp wit and cunning insight, THE ROYAL WE presents social issues of the day with a spin that is at once refreshingly light and hilariously honest. Critics have hailed THE ROYAL WE's "brainy panache" and called them "the smartest and funniest comedy in New York right now." THE ROYAL WE is classic American comedy reinvented for the present day. Their insightful, intelligent humor exposes truths about American society with hilarious results.
THE ROYAL WE is Lauren Antler, Becca Greene, Matt Johnson, Jerry Miller, Will Nunziata and co-writer/director Kevin Scott. In addition to being unique stand-out actors, each member of THE WE is a contributing writer and creator of the troupe’s unique brand of ensemble comedy.
The group was nominated for a 2005 Emerging Comics of New York Award for Best Sketch Comedy Group, and their recent hit shows, Does this War Make Me Look Fat and Be All That You Can Buy, have enjoyed sold out runs in New York and appearances at comedy festivals across the country. THE ROYAL WE was also a Time Out New York critic's pick, which proclaimed "See them now, before they're sponsored."
THE ROYAL WE takes aim at the pressing issues of the day (war, faith, fidelity, the low-carb cola wars) with sketches that are consistently original and unexpected, transforming the mundane into the absurd in seconds flat.
THE ROYAL WE has been performing comedy together for three years and individually for over a decade. THE WE is in the vanguard of the current sketch explosion underway in the New York comedy scene, bringing their refreshing new take on ensemble comedy in the same way Monty Python’s Flying Circus and the Original Not Ready for Prime Time Players shook up the standards of their times.
The members of THE ROYAL WE met and formed the group while honing their sketchwriting and improvisational skills at The Second City's New York Training Center. After an extended run in a variety act at the Irish Repertory Theater, THE WE took their improvised show to The Peoples Improv Theater where honed the style and perspective that would inform their sketch comedy. Their first sketch show was standing-room-only despite a blizzard going on outside and their shows continued to sell out thanks to word of mouth. The group's unyielding commitment to quality material and informed humor has kept the crowds coming back ever since.
